Every CPS School in District 6A

Chicago School Board District 6A has fourteen Chicago Public Schools: twelve elementary schools and two high schools. That is the fewest of any of the city's 20 school board districts, and neither high school has a neighborhood attendance area, so no 6A address is guaranteed a high school seat inside the district. Dr. Brenda Lee Anderson is running to represent every one of them on the Board of Education.

Why there's no neighborhood high school

Payton is selective enrollment and Noble Academy is a charter. Both admit citywide by exam or lottery. The nearest neighborhood high schools, Lincoln Park and Wells, sit just outside the district line. That gap is why so many 6A families leave CPS after eighth grade, and it is one reason Dr. Anderson's budget plan starts with making neighborhood schools worth staying for.

Walter Payton College Preparatory High School

Selective enrollment 9–12 · 1,254 students · 1034 N Wells St · Old Town / Near North

No attendance boundary — application/lottery/exam

One of CPS's eleven selective-enrollment high schools and consistently the hardest to get into. Admission is by application and entrance exam, so living next door does not get a student a seat.

Dr. Anderson: Dr. Anderson will protect selective enrollment while pushing CPS to make neighborhood options strong enough that families aren't forced into a single test.

Noble – The Noble Academy

Charter 9–12 · 400 students · 1443 N Ogden Ave · Cabrini-Green

No attendance boundary — application/lottery/exam

A Noble Network charter high school using the Harkness discussion method. Admission is by application and lottery; no attendance area.

Dr. Anderson: Dr. Anderson supports holding charters to the same transparency and accountability standards as district-run schools.

William B. Ogden International School (Ogden East & Jenner campuses)

Neighborhood · International Baccalaureate PK–8 · 823 students · 24 W Walton St (East) · 1119 N Cleveland Ave (Jenner) · Gold Coast / Cabrini-Green

Has an attendance boundary

The neighborhood school for the Gold Coast, River North and Streeterville, and the only full PK–12 IB continuum in Illinois. Merged with Jenner in 2018; PK and grades 5–8 are at the Jenner campus in Cabrini-Green.

Dr. Anderson: The Ogden–Jenner merger is the district's model for integration done right. Dr. Anderson wants its lessons funded, not forgotten.

Skinner North Classical School

Selective enrollment (Classical) K–8 · 513 students · 640 W Scott St · Cabrini-Green / Goose Island

No attendance boundary — application/lottery/exam

A citywide classical school with a liberal-arts accelerated curriculum. Admission by application and entrance exam. Opened in 2009; ranked Exemplary by the state.

Dr. Anderson: Dr. Anderson will keep selective schools rigorous and expand the pipeline so more 6A kids from neighborhood schools can test in.

Franklin Elementary Fine Arts Center

Magnet (fine arts) K–8 · 349 students · 225 W Evergreen Ave · Old Town

No attendance boundary — application/lottery/exam

Chicago's only citywide fine-arts magnet elementary, with instruction in music, dance, art, drama and piano. Admission by lottery; ranked Exemplary by the state.

Dr. Anderson: Arts programs are the first thing cut in a budget crisis. Dr. Anderson's budget plan protects them.

George Manierre Elementary School

Neighborhood PK–8 · 270 students · 1420 N Hudson Ave · Old Town / Cabrini-Green

Has an attendance boundary

The neighborhood school for Old Town and the former Cabrini-Green footprint, with a college-careers-civics focus and a long history in the community.

Dr. Anderson: Small neighborhood schools like Manierre are the first targets when CPS talks about 'under-enrollment.' Dr. Anderson opposes closures and will fight for the funding that keeps them open.

Rubén Salazar Elementary Bilingual Center

Small school · Bilingual (Options for Knowledge) PK–8 · 353 students · 160 W Wendell St · Near North

No attendance boundary — application/lottery/exam

A Title I bilingual center capped at 600 students, known for its Spanish heritage program. Enrollment is by application rather than attendance area.

Dr. Anderson: Bilingual programs depend on stable staffing. Dr. Anderson's budget plan starts with keeping teachers in classrooms.

Rodolfo Lozano Bilingual & International Center

Neighborhood · World Language magnet cluster PK–8 · 273 students · 1501 N Greenview Ave · Wicker Park / Noble Square

Has an attendance boundary

A neighborhood school with a Spanish world-language magnet cluster program and international studies focus.

Dr. Anderson: Dr. Anderson will push CPS to market neighborhood schools like Lozano to the families already living around them.

Rowe Elementary Charter School

Charter K–8 · 625 students · 1424 N Cleaver St · Wicker Park / Noble Square

No attendance boundary — application/lottery/exam

A K–8 charter with a college-prep mission and a family-partnership model. Admission by application and lottery.

Dr. Anderson: Dr. Anderson supports holding charters to the same transparency and accountability standards as district-run schools.

A.N. Pritzker School

Neighborhood · Regional Gifted Center · Fine arts magnet cluster PK–8 · 679 students · 2009 W Schiller St · Wicker Park

Has an attendance boundary

Wicker Park's neighborhood school, which also houses a Regional Gifted Center and a fine and performing arts magnet cluster. One building, three programs.

Dr. Anderson: Pritzker shows a neighborhood school can also be a destination. Dr. Anderson wants that model replicated, not rationed.

Albert R. Sabin Elementary Magnet School

Magnet (dual language) PK–8 · 371 students · 2216 W Hirsch St · West Town

No attendance boundary — application/lottery/exam

A PK–8 Spanish–English dual-language magnet drawing students citywide by lottery, with a community-schools partnership with Columbia College.

Dr. Anderson: Community partnerships like Sabin's are one of Dr. Anderson's four priorities; she wants them funded as core, not extras.

José de Diego Elementary Community Academy

Neighborhood PK–8 · 506 students · 1313 N Claremont Ave · West Town / Ukrainian Village

Has an attendance boundary

A neighborhood community academy with a 1:1 technology personalized-learning model in K–5 and grade-level lounges in middle school.

Dr. Anderson: Dr. Anderson will push for the data CPS already collects on schools like De Diego to be published, so the board can see what is working.

Pulaski International School of Chicago

Neighborhood · International Baccalaureate · Regional Gifted Center (ELL) PK–8 · 888 students · 2230 W McLean Ave · Bucktown

Has an attendance boundary

Bucktown's neighborhood school and the largest elementary in the district, with an IB program and a Regional Gifted Center for Spanish-speaking English learners.

Dr. Anderson: Pulaski is near capacity. Dr. Anderson's budget plan prioritizes building condition and classroom space where enrollment is growing.

CICS Bucktown

Charter K–8 · 517 students · 2235 N Hamilton Ave · Bucktown

No attendance boundary — application/lottery/exam

A Chicago International Charter School K–8 campus with project-based learning and an arts and wellness after-school program. Admission by lottery.

Dr. Anderson: Dr. Anderson supports holding charters to the same transparency and accountability standards as district-run schools.

Schools nearby that many 6A families use

Because the district has no neighborhood high school, 6A students most often attend Lincoln Park High School (Lincoln Park, 2001 N Orchard St), Wells Community Academy (West Town, 936 N Ashland Ave) or Jones College Prep (South Loop, selective). Ogden International's high school campus is at 1250 W Erie St, just south of the district line. None of these is inside 6A, but their funding and enrollment policies are set by the same board.
